Badminton rackets

Badminton Towel Grip Vs Rubber – What should you use?

There are badminton players who prefer a towel grip instead of rubber cause some players have sweaty hands and have a hard time keeping their good grip on their badminton rackets.

Most players are also wary of the risk when of their rackets flying in the court, instead of the ball once their hands become sweaty.

Other players prefer to use badminton with a rubber grip cause they feel the grips are thinner and are just exact for their palm.

Towel Grip has its pros and cons as well as rubber grip. Most of the time, it depends on the player instead of the design of the badminton. It is often about the player’s comfort.

Advantages of Rubber Grips

It is a top-selling type of racket grip and is readily available. Also, rubber grips usually come with a newly bought racket. Most players also use rubber grips because it is durable and because it is simple to use. It is also the perfect grip for players who don’t have sweaty hands because when it is dry, the rubber grips are highly controllable and stick to the hands, so it is highly beneficial for most players.

Rubber grips are also considered spongy by other players and can be stretched tightly depending on the preferred tightness of the player, as it will provide a better girth to the racket.

However, for newly bought rackets it is ideal for players to change the original rubber that comes with the racket because of the inferior quality and may not be as durable and sticky.

Players may find themselves adjusting the grip or tightening it. The best way is to change the rubber grip and find a better and more efficient brand to replace it with.

Also, it is not the best racket for those with sweaty hands cause of the racket’s tendency to be slippery.

Badminton Grip Vs Overgrip

Badminton players want to make sure the racket will feel right in their hands and comfortable to play with. They don’t need any expensive racket that will not be doing them any good inside the court.

Most players use overgrip on top of the original grip as they feel they can handle the rackets better.

Overgrips are used as badminton grips, and they can be synthetic, which is the more popular option. Synthetic overgrips are made of polyurethane, but there is also a percentage of leather overgrips available.

Advantages of Synthetic Overgrip

Comfortable to hold – The impact is not felt as much because the racket is highly comfortable while in use.

Wide range of options available – There is a choice of thickness and style that a player may choose from and will help them feel they have a good grip on their racket.

Good longevity – Better performance and can last longer as compared to a towel grip.

Better handling of the racket – The synthetic provides good friction while a player is holding it. There is better control of the racket.

Customizable – It is possible to wrap multiple layers of overgrips to the racket handle and provide the thickness that any player prefers.

Affordable to replace – Overgrips are also affordable, and this makes them easy to replace.

Disadvantages of Overgrip

It is not good at sweat absorption – It does not efficiently absorb sweat, and this is important for people who have clammy hands. This can make the racket slippery and will not result in an excellent performance for the player.

Overgrips require frequent tying – For the overgrip to stay in place and provide better handling of the racket, a player must frequently tighten it. It leads to its fast depletion.

Badminton Towel Grip Vs Overgrip

Badminton towel grip is thicker compared to an overgrip. It keeps the hands of the players from sweating instead of leaving it all on the handle.

Towel grips give players more comfort while they are playing. However, a towel grip also requires grip powder as it provides tighter handling of the badminton racket.

When compared with a towel grip, an overgrip is thinner. Some players also prefer using this as it gives them easy handling of the racket or simple maneuverability. It is also the most preferred when players don’t have moist hands, which is why some lean on using overgrip.

Overgrip is also cheaper, and most players use this on top of their full grip to make the handle thicker, which gives some players ease of use.

Advantages of Towel Grip

Absorbs sweat – Since they often make the towel grip of polyester or cotton, it absorbs sweat in no time. It gives the player such comfort and will not cause any difficulty gripping their racket while in the game.

Lightweight – Although this is a towel grip racket, it does not add to the weight, cause most of the rackets made are thin, absorbent, yet light to carry.

Provides better comfort – as the sweat is absorbed, the player’s discomfort lessens and lets them play with ease without the anxiety of releasing the racket unintentionally.

Various designs to choose from – There are available colors to choose from which is an advantage for players who still want to be fashionable with the racket they are using. There are also various thicknesses or thinness depending on what the player prefers.

Soft to the touch – Since they make it of cotton or polyester, the feel is softer, and makes it easier to hold, and feels good on the hands.

Disadvantages of Towel Grip

Requires replacement – Since it absorbs perspiration, the towel grip can smell as it breeds bacteria. The towel grip can also get saturated fast, particularly if the player perspires heavily.

Use of Grip Powder – Towel grip must be paired with grip powder for better performance. This powder will absorb the excess sweat and will help the racket remain easy to grip and maneuver. It will also help lessen the absorption of moisture directly into the towel grip.

It declines fast – Because of the cloth material, it can attract more dirt and grime, not just sweat. The longer it is used, the more dirty and rough it becomes.
